Homosexuality and the Politics of Truth               By Jeffrey Satinover, M.D.  (250 pages)          Subject: Christian Life

One review states of this book… “The best book on homosexuality written in our lifetime…”  I absolutely concur with this assessment.  Satinover’s work in preparation for this reasoned and compassionate work is nothing short of amazing.

Satinover is a brilliant psychologist and psychiatrist who is able to get at the heart of the issue of homosexuality.  On the one hand he debunks the cultural myth that homosexuality is strictly genetic (“born that way”), and also exposes the myth that homosexuality is a simple choice.

From a conservative Judeo-Christian viewpoint, Satinover helps the lay person understand the causes of homosexuality by accurately reporting data from numerous scientific and sociological studies.  He develops a model that is based on a clear understanding of innate, familial and societal influences, as well as natural habit, compulsion, and addiction.

He finishes up by being a staunch advocate for the reformative treatment out of the homosexual lifestyle.  But Satinover writes with intelligence and compassion in a way that others have not been able to do.

I found the first half of the book particularly informative, as well as chapter 16.
